Anoxic storage is a method of storing artifacts in a low-oxygen environment. It slows deterioration, such as metal corrosion, and is now the favored means of non-toxic insect eradication (research indicates that most insect infestations will be eliminated in an anoxic environment in from 5 days to 2 weeks at less than 0.5% oxygen). Create an airtight microenvironment with a flexible oxygen barrier film and remove the oxygen using an oxygen absorber. The tools and materials we offer have been specifically designed to create an effective anoxic microenvironment. Oxygen Absorbing PacketsThe absorber consists of ferrous oxide (partially oxygenated iron) in permeable paper packets. 6000 units of oxygen absorber will remove oxygen from 1 cubic foot of air. You may want to use much more oxygen absorber than is indicated to compensate for questionable seals, etc. Be aware that the volume of air inside a packet will decrease up to 20% as the absorber consumes the oxygen, so plan the size of your enclosure accordingly.

Oxygen Indicator TabletsInsert one or more tablets in each bag. The tablets contain a color indicator that changes from pink to blue as the concentration of axygen falls below 0.5%. 2 tablets as packed with a 500cc oxygen absorbing packet in a barrier pouch for freshness. Store the tablets in a cool, dark place to prolong useful life. 2 per package.
Bag ClipsSeal small anoxic pouches for relatively short-term storage (a week or two). Also great for resealing unused packets of oxygen absorber packets in their barrier pouches to keep them fresh.
Barrier Bags & RollsThe economical foil bags are made of a 5 mil layered film of polypropylene, polyethylene and aluminum foil with a sealing layer of polyethylene. This material has an oxygen transmission rate of .0006. The clear/foil bags have an aluminized film on one side and Filmpak (a transparent, flexible, heat-sealable, barrier film sandwich of polyethylene, polyester and polyethylene) on the other side to allow you to view the specimen. The 5 mil-thick Filmpak roll with an oxygen transmission rate of 0.1 can be cut to size. Both bags can be sealed with the barrier sealers and the smaller bags can be sealed for a week or two with a bag clip. Each package includes 10 bags.
Barrier SealerMakes a 9/16" wide seal, sufficient for creating anoxic pouches. Just plug in, place film between bars and squeeze, making sure there are no folds, wrinkles or particles to interrupt the seal. For use with barrier bags or create your own custom pouches made with Marvelseal or Filmpak film. The barrier sealer makes 6" seal lengths and offers 3 temperature settings; 6 ft. cord included.
